For this 20th anniversary, MAGI is proud to welcome researchers, institutional representatives, academic partners, collaborators, and friends joining us in Venice. Twenty years is a long time in research — and that’s exactly the point. This anniversary is a chance to recognize the work, the trust, and the shared effort behind everything that has been built so far, and to look forward with the same seriousness, curiosity, and sense of responsibility that brought us here.
There are places that instantly set the tone for an anniversary like this, and San Marco is one of them. It’s a historic Venetian institution with centuries of civic life behind it — a space tied to public service, culture, and the pursuit of knowledge. Its setting, its architecture, and its sense of continuity make it the perfect backdrop for a day that’s not just a celebration.
This anniversary is first and foremost about people: the researchers, collaborators, partners, and institutions who helped MAGI grow from an idea into a structured scientific reality. The event will bring our community together to revisit key moments from the past two decades, hear short talks and personal snapshots from those who shaped the journey, share scientific highlights and a clear view of where we’re heading next, and take a real moment to thank the collaborators who made long-term work possible.
MAGI was founded in 2006 within the PhD School of the University of Siena with a clear objective: to establish in Italy an advanced laboratory for multiomic analysis, closely integrated with data science, in support of precision medicine. Over time, this initial initiative developed into the MAGI Group, which now operates three laboratories in Rovereto (Trentino, Italy), Bolzano (Alto Adige, Italy), and San Felice del Benaco (Lombardy, Italy), integrating expertise in molecular biology, bioinformatics, mathematics, and computational analysis.
In Albania, MAGI Balkan was established, initiating a collaboration with a leading university research group in mathematics and physics. MAGI has continued to strengthen its scientific programs, infrastructure, and partnerships in Italy and internationally, including in the United States, where it launched its most recent spin-off, MAGISNAT, at Atlanta Tech Park and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kennesaw State University.
MAGI is also a member of the European Biotechnology Thematic Network Association (EBTNA), an international scientific society through which it has supported young researchers via scholarships and promoted advanced training through seminars and summer schools.
